SPRI PBDG-8R 8 lb. Dual Grip Xerballs - Packaged Review

The personal trainer at the athletic club I belong to had me use a dual-grip ball for several exercises. I had never used one before and liked it so much that I decided to get one for home. The eight-pound ball is a good weight for me and the grips make it easy to use. I have arthritis in my hands and the grips definitely make the ball easier to use.

SPRI Weighted Fitness Bars (6 - 30 lbs) Review

SPRI Weighted Fitness Bars (6 - 30 lbs)I've used this type of bar in my gym and while it was more expensive than some of the other options I figured I would go with what I know. Some other reviews of other bars mentioned the length was too short and I hadn't thought of that as a potential issue with a different brand. Overall this met my expectation, just wish it cost less at the 30lb range as price jumped quite a bit from the lighter bar.

Product Description
Build lean body mass and muscle definition! This 4 foot long weighted bar with foam cushioned padding and color coded endcap to indicate bar weight, will give a new twist to your workout routines. Great for extended workouts, the SPRI® weighted bar provides even weight distribution for stability during exercises. Perfect for strength training, flexibility and balance in conjunction with various workout programs.

SPRI Xertube Yellow, Extra Light Review

The fitness trainer at my gym brings in bags of these bands for her classes. Once I used the other bands that are available at the gym, I understood why. The SPRI bands are long and have enough stretch that you can use them for a variety of exercises: tricep extensions, lateral raises, and so on. The other bands were shorter and stiffer, which really limited the kinds of maneuvers you could use them for: the moves were just too hard to do.

In our class, we used yellow, green, and red bands. Most of us started with the yellow and green bands and over the course of the class were able to move up one band in resistance. If you are just starting a strength training program, the yellow and green bands would be good to have, especially if you are a woman. If you're a man, you might try starting with green and working up to red. If you're a gym rat and lifting lots of weight already, you should start with more resistance.

Product Description
Add resistance to your upper body workout. Works the muscle groups unilaterally and bilaterally. Ideal for use in exercise classes, at home, or while traveling. Comes assembled with two handles.Choose from varying resistance levels of extra-light, light, medium, heavy, or extra-heavy. Color varies according to resistance level.

Skin Fold Caliper Review

This is a very accurate method of tracking body composition changes and the Slim Guide Skin fold Caliper with the Booklet is a GREAT tool for doing this. I have used a few tools over the decades and for the price...this is a great tool!

The booklet DOES give you answers for 1, 2 and 4 location tests instantly without any complex math.(see P.S. at bottom.)

This is best used by taking measurements over a period of time and tracking changes. If your interest is simply to monitor your body composition over time for general health, once every one to three months is a good interval. If, on the other hand, you have a specific goal or are in an intensive nutrition/training cycle, you may wish to track once a week.

If you are looking to lose weight (by losing excess fat) ...measuring Lean Body Mass and Body Fat is the only way to insure you are not losing muscle and water.

Many diets cause massive losses of water and muscle (very low calorie and low carbohydrate diets for example)...leading to a quick regain of pounds at some point. If you are on a diet program, and nobody is measuring your Lean Body Mass and Body Fat, you simply do not know what your body is doing.

So you know my credentials, I have been involved in health and fitness for over 20 years as a Body Builder, Body Sculptor, Trainer, Consultant, Coach and many other positions in the field. I am currently the Director of Personal Success Now.

For the best accuracy with this...

You should have the same person take the measurements at the same time of day. You should take your body weight (needed to determine Lean Body Mass and Body Fat) on THE SAME SCALE at the same time of day every time. The first time, you should measure how far down the Biceps and Triceps you take the measure and make a note. Make a picture diagram of where you take the other two measurements (below the shoulder blade and the side of the waist.) There are directions and diagrams to help you in the book, so don't worry about a thing.

Also, note what cloths you were wearing when you weigh yourself on the scale...always wear them for the weigh-in. Take a photograph of yourself now!! It is very helpful to see images of yourself at 30% bodyfat, then at 25%, then at 20%, then at 18%! If you feel shy, take them yourself in front of a mirror!

You will be glad you did. Just trust me on that.

If the program you are following is not giving you results in three weeks, something is not right. Get some help from a knowledgeable and qualified trainer. They can help you shorten the time it takes to reach your goals and be Your Personal Best.

Always ask potential program managers/trainers how they will help you achieve your goals. If they will not be using these components to help you...consider finding someone else:

1) Food and Nutrient intake monitoring
2) Cardiorespiratory Training
3) Resistance Training
4) Personal Assistance including Body composition monitoring

Additionally, if you are looking to lose body fat, you should consider removing foods with flavorings, colorings, additives, and preservatives from your diet at this time, as clinical tests have demonstrated that some of these can adversely effect bodyfat mobilization (i.e. fat burning) and some even enhance fat storage and stimulate the appetite.

Wishing you Personal Success Now!

P.S.
It is important to know up front that you will need another person to help you if you wish to get the most accurate results using this method of body composition monitoring. To more accurately determine your Lean Body Mass and Body Fat, you take caliper measurements from 1, 2, 3, 4, or 7 (or even 9) locations on the body. 2 of these are from behind: Just below your shoulder blade and the back of your arm (which you can reasonably do alone.) There is an option to use a measurement from only one location (front of the arm) to determine bodyfat, however this is not as accurate as taking it from multiple (3+)locations.

There are on-line calculators that will allow you to use a 3-site measurement that 1 person can do alone. Here is one such: linear-software.com/online.html.Since this is based on a mathematical calculation, you can do it yourself if you are interested...here is the information:

The 3 Skin fold sites required for Men are:
Chest, Abdomen, Thigh;

The 3 Skin fold sites required for Women are:
Triceps, Suprailiac, Thigh.
There are illustrations on the website given above.

You must determine body density:
Body Density for Men:
1.1093800-(0.0008267*(sum 3 skinfolds))+(0.0000016*(sum 3 skinfolds)^2)-(0.000257*age)

Body Density for Women:
1.0994921-(0.0009929*(sum 3 skinfolds))+(0.0000023*(sum 3 skinfolds)^2)-(0.0001392*age)

To Calculate Body Fat %:
(457/Body Density)-414.2

Stretchrite Sport Stretching Tool Review

This stretching rope does not stretch on it's own but is extremely well designed and strong.During my physical therapy I used another device that broke, so I am glad I found this to replace it..the strap is wide enough so it does not cut into your foot and the beads on the side give you a firm grip and gives you a guide as to how well you are progressing. An excellent tool for therapy or just stretching!

Product Description
As its name implies, the Stretchrite stretching tool from SPRI is designed to help align your pre- and post-exercise stretches, and increase flexibility. Fashioned from a durable webbing strap with ergonomic plastic grips, the tool is suitable for leg, arm, shoulder, and back stretches. It's also designed to help you gauge your progress, whether you're in sports-injury recovery or top physical form.

An improvement over simple webbing straps, the Stretchrite is very easy to grasp by its colorful purple and yellow grips. Their design lets you adjust tension mid-stretch, as well as track how your flexibility is progressing. You can also secure one end of the strap over a closed door for deltoid, arm, and chest stretches. Reasonably light weight at just one pound, the Stretchrite fits easily into a suitcase or gym bag. The included full-color activity diagram is a great way to get started safely, and includes a sport-specific stretching guide.--Emily Bedard

SPRI YSK-R2 Yoga Starter Kit with Yoga Mat, Two 6" x 9" x 4" Foam Blocks, 6' Cotton Yoga Strap, and Yoga Postures Poster Review

I use it for P90X and it works great. Wish I bought it BEFORE i bought a pilates mat which is very comfy but not buiolt for balance postures. This kit is perfect (if you don't want a bag or carry straps).

Product Description
For beginning yoga students, this starter kit comes packed with all the necessary equipment. First and foremost is a 68-by-24-inch purple sticky mat that adheres to any floor surface. It won't shift as you move into new poses or cause feet to slide so you can turn all your attention toward your breathing. At 1/8-inch thick, the mat provides good insulation from cold studio floors, and offers a fair amount of cushion on wrists during potentially straining poses, such as downward-facing dog or plank. At just over 2-1/2 pounds, this mat is lightweight enough to carry to and from the yoga studio and rolls up for easy transportation or storage. Other props include a 4-by-6-by-9-inch lightweight foam block that provides additional support, and a 6-foot cotton strap with an adjustable cinch buckle to help deepen your stretch during reclining poses. A 10-by-28-inch color poster displays all the standard poses, and is perfect to hang up for easy reference in the area where you practice. --Cristina Vaamonde

SPRI ES501R Xertube Resistance Band with Door Attachment and Exercise Charts (Red, Medium) Review

This product is amazing. I recently did 5 weeks of bootcamp and we used these resistance tubes every time for biceps, chest, back and shoulders. Its amazing how effective these are and all the time you are just using your body weight. You can make it as easy or as difficult as you want. I had to get them. The green one was a little too light for me and the blue one is a little too tight for a beginner woman. Best part is you can take this lightweight exercise gear anywhere you want and have a good muscle toning workout. Think you can google up the different exercises you can do with these. Plus for the price, it is so cheap, you dont even need to think twice.

Product Description
SPRI Xertubes provide an easily portable, highly versatile way to add resistance training to your workout. Constructed of durable rubber with secure plastic and webbing handles, the Xertubes are suitable for a variety of toning exercises, body types, and fitness levels. Color-coded red, this Xertube is recommended by SPRI for the upper body workouts of most men and fit women. It offers medium resistance for the muscle groups in the back, arms, shoulders, and trunk. SPRI also includes a strap that lets you safely secure the tube to a door for additional target activities. The kit includes two illustrated charts of exercises, including bicep curls, shoulder presses, and back extensions. Designed for light and speedy mobility, the strap can be rolled up to stash in a gym bag, suitcase, or overnight grip. --Emily Bedard
