Diamondback Fitness 1000Sr Step-thru Recumbent Exercise Bike Review

This is a great recumbent bike. I've had it for about a week now, riding about an hour a day. First impressions: very solid frame, seat and console mast. Oversize seat is well-padded and comfortable. The display is a dot-matrix commercial-type that is bright and easy to read (and program too). The bike is completely silent when in use.

The ride quality of the 1000SR is excellent. I researched this bike ahead of time and found it had a 24lb flywheel. There are 16 levels of resistance that provide an excellent workout range. As I mentioned before, the bike and seat are very stable. I'm 6'2", 220lbs and it doesn't budge when I'm riding. The adjustable seat would allow for someone much taller than me to ride comfortably - I only need to slide the seat about half-way up. My wife is 5'2" and fits comfortably as well (at the closest setting).

The handlebar heart-rate sensors pick up your heart-rate quickly - and the 1000SR includes a wireless chest strap from Polar that works flawlessly and eliminates the need to hold onto the handles - this is great for the HR controlled programs. The other included programs are excellent. There is also room to set two of your own custom workouts. Another nice feature is being able to set two user profiles, which saves the time of entering age and weight into the unit at the start of each workout.

The 1000SR arrived in perfect condition. The packaging was superb - all components were were individually wrapped and secured in a very heavy-duty box. All assembly materials were also individually packaged according to what they were needed for. There was no guesswork involved. They even included all necessary tools! Because of this, assembly was a fast and easy process. It probably took less than an hour altogether. The assembly instructions were clear - and really, most of the bike was already put together - I needed to attach only the seat assembly, the console mast and a couple other odds and ends. If you're not Hercules, you should try to get the box placed where you want to assemble it. The main frame is quite heavy. Another nice feature is that, once assembled, it has rollers in the front and a handle under the rear of the frame, which makes it easy to roll around the room. There are also adjustable feet in the back, that can be adjusted from the top and help to adjust for any dips in the floor.

The only complaint I have is that the warranty materials that come with the bike state that the warranty is not valid unless a qualified Diamondback Technician assembles the machine. This seems kind of odd considering that there is not much that needs to be assembled. So, I'm not sure what kind of warranty this bike comes with if you assemble it yourself - but will contact Diamondback to find out.

All-around, a great purchase. This bike looks and feels like gym-quality equipment.
