Chen Style Tai Chi Old Form 2nd Road Review

_Chen_Style_Tai_Chi_Old_Form_2nd_Road is a DVD showing the complete form for the 2nd Road of Chen style Tai Chi. The form is demonstrated by Master Shu Dong Li, 20th generation Tai Chi master.

The 2nd Road Chen style Tai Chi is a VERY energetic form. There are some soft movements, but also quite a few hard and fast strikes, and some VERY energetic leaping, foot switching and kicks. I don't know if I'll ever be able to do that form myself, but even just to watch it is a treat.

Overall, it's a very good DVD. The form is shown in its entirety both from the front and back. Master Li performs the form very well. During his performance of the form, scrolling text at the bottom of the screen shows the name of each sequence being performed. The step-by-step portion is very well explained. There is also some biographical data on Master Li.

My nitpicks are the same as for the _Chen_Style_Tai_Chi_Old_Form_1st_Road_ DVD -- the volume of the opening narration is pretty loud, and it can be kind of startling the first time you watch the DVD. During the step-by-step explanation of the form, Master Li's accent can be hard to understand the first few times you listen to it. As with the other DVD, I consider those to be very minor nitpicks.

No DVD can be a substitute for in-person instruction, but keeping that in mind this is an excellent DVD demonstration of the 2nd Road of Chen style Tai Chi. I would DEFINITELY recommend anyone getting this DVD either also get the companion DVD that shows the 1st Road of Chen style Tai Chi, or take a Tai Chi course (or preferably both), as the 2nd Road Chen style Tai Chi form is VERY different from most other Tai Chi forms I've seen or practiced.
