Xvest X4040 40-Pound Weight Vest Review
Sit ups on the floor with the vest are uncomfortable because of the weights located behind my lower back. However, I've found that using a declined bench or swiss ball alleviates this discomfort. It also helps me achieve one heck of a burn.
This vest will up your game, but only if you put forth the effort.During the first few days of using it there were moments when I felt like passing out. It's definitely hard work, but if you're looking for a new way to crank up your workouts, I would highly recommend this product.
Product Description
The basic premise of the Xvest weight vest is very simple: training or exercising the body at a heavier weight than it is accustomed . With specific exercises or very broad conditioning exercises, you will find that your conditioning level will improve and your strength, power, and quickness will also improve. This is accomplished by "tricking" your body, brain and your muscles to believe that you have gained this extra weight but in actuality, you have not. When the Xvest is removed, your body will function and react as if the weight is still there; therefore, you have tricked your mind and muscles and will be capable of producing power, speed, quickness and endurance at levels that you might have never obtained.

Sole E35 Elliptical Trainer Review
First, Be ready to take about half a day to move the box and assemble the machine -- the box is about 290lbs (gross weight) and feels all of 300lbs.Worse yet, if you take the machine out piece by piece so that it's lighter (say, if you want to move the machine up a flight of stairs) you will be very unhappily surprised to find that the fly wheel is bolted to some articulated arms, which are EXTREMELY hard to finagle around and to move when the machine is out of the box.
I cannot stress this enough: IF YOU WANT TO HAVE YOUR E35 SET UP IN THE SECOND OR THIRD FLOOR OF YOUR HOUSE JUST PAY THE EXTRA $99 FOR THE DELIVERY COMPANY TO DO IT.Unless you have (not exaggerating) 3 or 4 healthy, strong guys to move this box, forget about getting it upstairs if it's just you and one other person.I really wish I had just paid the extra money for the shipping company to move it up the stairs of my house.
Once you get the box situated where you want to set up the machine, however, you're good to go.The assembly instructions are VERY well written and very clear. There are a lot of parts and steps, but none of them are very complicated or require a lot of dexterity or "handyman" knowledge. Also, if you need any help, SOLE's customer support is great.
Once I got the machine put together, there was no comparison -- I tried out a few different Ellipticals in the $800 - $1,500 range, and the E35,with its power incline (the power incline works great), 25lb flywheel, 350lb maximum weight capacity, and silky-smooth movement are far and away more than you're going to get with any other machine in this price range. While the display is fairly simple, it comes with some nice extras like a heart-rate monitor that hooks up to the display (this all comes with the machine) so that you don't have to hold on to the heart-rate sensors throughout your workout.
I used Precor machines for years at a big gym.If you're not familiar with them, they're easily the most expensive Ellipticals out there and cost well over $3,500 for their mid-grade model. The Sole E35 isn't a Precor 5 series, but it has a LOT of the features that the Precor does.I would say it's 80% or 90% as good as a Precor, where the only detracting factor for the Sole is that it's not as stable as the tank-sized Precor (the Precor machine is probably 350+lbs) and doesn't have as refined features as the Precor, much like the difference between a really nice, fully loaded Cadillac and a Rolls Royce -- you can tell a difference, but either way, you're very happy with what you've got.
Finally, I'll share what I did as far as working out a deal.If you find a comparable machine or a licensed dealer on E-Bay selling Sole's ellipticals, Sole's customer service people will match prices if you are diligent. In my personal case, I found a 2008 E35 on Ebay being sold by a Sole dealer for $999 shipped, so I called Sole and asked if they would match the price, and they said they would.I paid them the $999, and lucky for me, when the machine came, I saw "NEW 2009 MODEL" on the box, and it was obviously really cool.So through doing some research and spending time before I made the purchase figuring out what I could work out with Sole, I got it for 30% less than the Amazon.com price.Just keep this in mind -- the elliptical / work out equipment machine market is VERY competitive and the companies will often bend over backwards to get your business.
Very last, I just want to mention that the 2 year in-home service / 5 year parts warranty is better than any comparable machine, and actually better than the warranty on some of Precor's models. So, all in all, I would highly recommend the 2009 Sole E35.
UPDATE AFTER ONE MONTH: Still solid as a rock, with just a few clinks here and there while in full motion on the machine.Heart monitor works great, power incline still functioning perfectly. No problems to report.
UPDATE AFTER THREE MONTHS: Still going very strong.Haven't had to call customer support about anything.I have experienced a little bit of "knocking" that suggests a bolt might be loose somewhere, but I think this is a common issue that comes up.When I put the machine together I realized that I had made a mistake tightening the bolts that connect the fly wheel arms with the handlebars.I corrected the mistake, but I think I might have overlooked something, so I'm guessing that the "knocking" is probably my fault.I'll fix it sometime and then update -- not really a big deal or that annoying.
Otherwise, I'm really starting to appreciate the refined features of the machine like the heart rate monitor and the power incline. While these things were off my radar when I was looking for a machine, I now appreciate them after using the machine 5 or 6 days a week.Sole really designed these features well, and they work just like they're supposed to.I'm still very satisfied and I think the E35 is a great piece of home equipment.
UPDATE AFTER FIVE MONTHS: Still no complaints.Holding up nicely.I've lost 20+ pounds and this has been a great, really convenient way to work out in the morning before heading to work.I tightened some of the bolts in the joints and now it works with minimal squeaks or creaks.
Though I stated this before, it is even more true now: when you get into the routine of using this machine4 - 6 times a week you REALLY start to appreciate the power incline and resistance settings, which have held up very nicely.Likewise, the heart rate monitor has held up well and it is another feature that I felt "so what" about when I bought the machine, but now greatly appreciate as a feature.
Again, given that I got my unit for $1,000 shipped, I feel like I got an exceptional bargain for how well this machine has held up and continues to work basically exactly as it did out of the box after months of frequent use.
Just make sure that you clean the rails and the wheels. They are magnets for dog hair and dust, but cleaning them once a month or so seems adequate. You can't go wrong at this price point for the value you get.
10 MONTH UPDATE: Still works nicely and no problems or complaints.I have had to tighten the bolts again at the point where the arms connect, but this really isn't that big of a hassle and is probably something that has to be done on all elliptical machines from time to time.Still very glad I invested in this machine.
Product Description
Enjoy an efficient full-body workout without heading to the gym with the Sole E35 elliptical trainer. Boasting a heavy 30-pound flywheel, a high gear ratio not found on most comparable models, and a pair of upper body handles, the E35 delivers an extremely smooth workout with plenty of top-end resistance. Users will also appreciate the unique oversize foot pedals, which were designed in collaboration with a leading physical therapist and sports enthusiast. The pedals are not only extra large, but also feature a 2-degree inward slope that reduces the ankle and knee stress that's common in other elliptical machines. And thanks to the stationary handle bars with built-in pulse sensors, it's a breeze to monitor your heart rate as you exercise (a chest strap is also included for highly accurate wireless monitoring).
Workout specifics include 16 resistance levels, ten total programs (including one custom program), and a 20-inch stride length. About Elliptical Trainers
Elliptical trainers represent the next wave of advancement in low-impact cardiovascular exercise machines and continue to grow in popularity. By simulating motions experienced through walking, stepping, cycling, and skiing, elliptical machines allow for a smooth and fluid motion while building strength in the arms and legs. Similar to the exercise position for treadmills, elliptical trainers are used by standing in an upright position while holding the handrails of the machine. With elliptical trainers, however, your feet remain in the foot pedals throughout the exercise regimen and circulate in a smooth and seamless motion, resulting in little to no impact on the knees, back, and hips.
Elliptical trainers are compatible for all ages and fitness levels and allow you to select the difficulty level through the incline and intensity settings. Additionally, elliptical trainers allow you to determine the complexity of your workout based on your needs, all while listening to music, watching television, or reading a magazine while exercising in the comfort and safety of your own home.
Although different types of elliptical trainers offer an assortment of features, many of them include an array of challenging programs, forward and reverse directional movement, EKG grip pulse handles, a lightweight portable design with easy fold-up capability, and a monitor displaying calories burned, distance, speed, time, and heart rate. Other types of exercise machines, namely treadmills and bikes, offer excellent cardiovascular exercise and muscular training for the legs in a forward-motion exercise. Elliptical trainers take this to the next level by offering an upper and lower body workout with dual motion, challenging and diverse programs, and a low-impact exercise machine that won't strain sensitive joints.

Marcy 100-Pound Single Stack Home Gym Review
The gym is relatively well-made, even though some of the welds could be done better. Seems like it will last for several years. Not sure about the padding, though.
There are few weaknesses. First of all, I didn't expect that 100-lb stack is so little. I am using all of the weight for many exercises and there is no way to add more weight. So, if you are not female, look for higher-weight gyms or the ones that can be expanded. Impex will not ship any more weight to you even if it is possible to add them. They just say "NO".
Another problem is with the lower cable. Firstly, if you do exercises in which you do not sit on the machine, it will lean back and may flip if you don't have a wall behind it. So, you need to step on the small flaps on the front part of the lower-front part of the frame. This, however, creates another problem. Due to design, the cable, if pulled vertically or at a low angle (and most exercises require just that) the cable will be constantly rubbing against the leg developer and I am afraid that in addition to the black marks on the leg developer the rubber on the cable will be gone soon.
After that, the metal cable will be rubbing against the leg developer.
A minor problem is that the weights are not numbered. Therefore, you need to count when you set your desired weight or just use trial-and-error approach. In addition, setting the weight is done from the back, not the side, which is quite inconvenient if it stands next to the wall (you would need about 1 ft distance from the wall).
Overall, I would buy at least the one with the heavier weight stack if I could.

Sole E95 Elliptical Trainer (2009 Model) Review
They had the e95, e35, and e25 in new 2009 models as well as an old (2008) e55 being sold as a floor model.I had originally thought I wanted the e55 but the new e35 is actually better than the old e55 so that ruled out the floor model, even at a killer price.
I looked mainly at the e35 and the e95.
Both are very, very, very sturdy machines.I was amazed at how much they feel like the LifeStride - very solid and a nice, long stride.I am only 5'4 but anything less than 20" in stride length feels choppy to me - I don't know how anyone can stand most home machines!
If I really, really got going hard and fast, I could feel a slight difference in sturdiness between the two machines.I should point out I am between 140-150 pounds - the sales guys said if they were me, they'd go with the e35 but someone of a higher weight would notice the difference more than I did.The difference in sturdiness alone was really too slight to justify the difference in price, but since we could afford to go higher, I wondered if we should.
The other thing I debated, though, was the computer. For the most part you can do the exact same thing with both machines, but the computers are a little different. The e95 is flashy red LED and has a numeric keypad. The e35 is blue LCD and has arrow keys for input (ie it says "Input age" and it starts with, I think, 32 - you then have to toggle to the right age). It's a little annoying but something that will be annoying at the start of the workout and that's all.Again a case of we can afford to pay more and this would be nice, maybe we should.
Both machines have buttons on the handlebars for adjusting resistance and incline- VERY cool. Both machines allow you to adjust the foot pedals although the e95 has a knob you turn so you can adjust to any angle within the range whereas the e35 has a lever you pull out and then lift the pedals which have 2 or 3 notches in them that catch on the lever when you push it back in - like an exercise bike seat - so you may not get THE perfect adjustment.
So it seems like if you're willing to spend the cash the e95 is the way to go, right? Not so fast. There was one big drawback to it and one small drawback. The small was, I didn't care for the padded footbeds. They neither added nor detracted from the workout but I didn't see the need to pay extra and I worried about the padding breaking down over time.If you're wearing tennis shoes who needs padded footbeds? The biggest drawback was, the e95 has fat, molded handgrips.I found these felt chunky and sticky in my hands.Maybe if you are a 6' plus beefy guy with bigger hands, you would prefer this, but I really didn't like it and it would bother me the entire workout. The e35 has thinner, smoother handgrips, like I was used to at the gym.I did not want to pay extra for the e95 and hate those handgrips.
In the end I ordered the new 2009 e55 from Sole because it has all the features I like - a little sturdier than the e35, numeric keypad though screen is LED not LCD, smooth handgrips with buttons, killer warranty, fully adjustable and non-padded foot beds.I wish I could have tried this one in the store but I liked both the e35 and the e95 so much I am quite sure this was the right choice. These really are great machines but the handgrips on the e95 were a deal breaker for me.
If you have a Dick's near you - try this machine, you will be amazed.I really don't think you can go wrong with any of the models - it all comes down to slight differences between them.(But of course as you go up in weight, they say the heavier flywheel does make a bigger difference)
Product Description
Enjoy an efficient full-body workout without heading to the gym with the Sole E95 elliptical trainer. Boasting a heavy 30-pound flywheel, a high gear ratio not found on most comparable models, and a pair of upper body handles, the E95 delivers an extremely smooth workout with plenty of top-end resistance. The pedals are not only extra large, but also feature a 2-degree inward slope that reduces the ankle and knee stress that's common in other elliptical machines. The collaboration also produced a revolutionary foot pedal angle adjustment not found on any other elliptical. Taking into account that not everyone walks the same way, Sole engineers made the E95's pedals adjustable to fit the way you walk. This also reduces the likelihood of numb toes and sore Achilles tendons.
Workout specifics include 20 resistance levels, 10 total programs (including two custom and two heart-rate programs), and a 20-inch stride length. hamstretch Ideal Stretch Hamstring Stretching Device with DVD Review
Not the case with this stretcher. I got my right leg almost vertical today which I've NEVER been able to do (though I've been leading up to it, to be fair), but the stretch was just more comfortable. Even with the left leg, I can keep the knee straight and stop it from veering. Well worth every penny!
Product Description
STRETCHING Don't OVER DO IT! Harder and faster will not get the results you want. The goal is to gain flexibility without causing injury. The correct way to stretch is in small increments. Be sure your leg muscles are warmed up before stretching. If you push yourself too far too fast, you risk serious injury.THE PASSIVE, STATIC STRETCHLie flat on the floor. With one knee bent, lift the other leg and put the stretcher in position. Straighten the leg first and then pull it towards the torso, gently and slowly. When you feen the hamstring tighten, or when you reach your current range of motion, stop and hold this position for 10 to 30 seconds. Switch from one leg to the other 3 to 5 times.THE ISOMETRIC STRETCHThe three basic steps to isometric stretching are: actively lengthen the target muscle isometrically contract the target muscle actively lengthen the target muscle again. A muscle is more relaxed and able to lengthen after a strong isometric contraction. This readiness to lengthen is the result of the inverse stretch reflex. When one muscle contracts, the opposing muscle relaxes because of neurological inhibition, thereby allowing movement to occur around a joint.

GP Deva Musical CD - A Memoir of a Great Patriarch III Review
Highly recommend this CD!
Product Description
This piece was originally created as a piano suite "Patriarch" by the third Dharma Heir of Forshang Buddhism Master Lee Sun-Don in honor and in memory of his beloved teacher Yuan-Dao Bodhisattva, the second Patriarch of Forshang Buddhism. The piano suite was later rearranged by Pey-Wen Yen for the orchestral composition. Never trained in piano, Master Lee made music not through composing nor on scores. Instead, the jingling, profound melody flew spontaneously out of wisdom attained in his spiritual practice, with his deep remembrance of his beloved teacher galloping freely under his fingers. "A Memoir of a Great Patriarch III" was nominated for the 18th annual "Golden Melody Award" in Taiwan under the category of Traditional Art Music for the best composer in 2007.
Through his melodic compositions, Master Lee shares and manifests his deep Zen wisdom to introduce the harmonization of the spiritual body and the universe, timelessly and unconfined by the boundaries of space. When you listen to the songs of this disc, the melodies will provide your soul with unlimited enjoyment. Especially for those seeking the tranquility of meditation, Master Lee's compilation will provide assistance in reaching such peace when accompanied softly during your personal routine.
Total playing time of this musical CD is approximately 48 minutes. Music pieces include:
- Grand Fearlessness (8:24)

Endurance TF3i Folding Treadmill Review
I specifically bought a model from Fitness Factory because of the lifetime warranty on all parts. I already owned a Body Solid gym purchaced from Fitness Factory 10 years ago and they have always been great about replacing worn out or broken parts with absolutely no hassle.
The TF3i is a solidy built treadmill with great fit and finish. It's appearance is that of a much more expensive model. This is a model without all the bells and whistles. It has only 4 pre-programed programs and will not store custom programs. It also has a basic control panel without all the advanced graphics the more expensive models have but it is also 25% less in price. The folding feature is great because I have a relatively small room for a gym and it only takes 10 seconds to get it ready to run or fold back up for storage.
The TF3i is extremely smooth and quiet in operation. Set up was easy, taking only about half an hour and having only three components to bolt together and the tools were included. You can forget about following the instructions since they were written in China but thankfully on this one it's straight forward enough that there won't be any guessing and even a novice at assemling such things should have no trouble at all. One thing to remember is that it does weigh 200 lbs and it will take two strong people to carry it to wherever you are setting it up in your house. It's shipped by freight like most of these are which means you will be responsible for getting it from the back of the truck to wherever it's going in your house. In my case the driver offered to help even though I was not paying extra for it and he was not required to.
In short this is an excellent machine for someone who is serious about putting in a lot of miles, doesn't care about all the electronics extras and wanys a machine that will last for many years at a reasonable price.Endurance TF3i Folding Treadmill

Heavy Grips by Heavy Sports Review
So I ordered the 150, and it is great. I do not recommend starting with the 100 if you are a guy. The 150 provides a good amount of resistance as a good starting gripper. But if I it was any less it would feel pretty weak. Since the difference between the 150 and the 200 feel VERY significant, I can't imagine how lame the 100 would be for a guy to start out with, as 150 feels just right.
Obviously, you won't get much use out of these things once you progress past them as they are non-adjustable, which is why it is important to make sure to get enough resistance. If you are someone who happens to know they have GOOD, ABOVE AVERAGE grip, then get the 200. Me-- I believe I have average to SLIGHTLY above average, and therefore the 150 works just perfect. The 200 was just too much to start with. I just got the 150 a week ago and figure I'll be ready for the 200 in about a month and a half or so.

LaloFit DVD Review
Product Description
A solid aero/tone interval workout that features unique between-movement freezes. These short pauses challenge your muscles in varied ways while inspiring a zen-like, mind-muscle focus (e.g. a two-second hold at the bottom of a push-up forces you to consciously engage your pectoral muscles). The exercises themselves are familiar classics. The toning segments are controlled and well-sequenced; they include lunges, overhead presses and bicycles. The 90-second cardio intervals are tough; they feature higher-impact jogs, plyo-jacks and squat thrusts. Lalo s one-on-one cuing precisely fits the workout s style; he s calm and unpretentious. 55 minutes of high and low intensity exercises designed to get you ripped! Lalo will guide you through a killer workout so you can see results quickly. Using Lalos unique Freeze Technique, youll learn how to connect your mind to your muscles for an intense workout and an incredible body! LaloFit is the next best thing to having your own personal trainer in the comfort of your home.Requires 2 to 5 lb. dumbbells (55 mins)ReviewDVD of the month: A WORKOUT YOU'LL LOOK FORWARD TO -- Combine a foxy trainer with a challenging 55-minute strenght and cardio session and you get LaloFit. Hollywood hottie Lalo Fuentes leads you through six intervals-based circuits that include cardio exercises and multi-muscle strenght moves followed by 30-second break. PowerBlock Stand and Bench Mat (36-Inch by 89-Inch) Review
Product Description
Protect your floor from wear while adding stability with every rep with this PowerBlock stand and bench mat. It's a little-appreciated fact: a clean, professional workout space is more inviting than a funky, unkempt space. Therefore, it stands to reason that you'll be more motivated to work out when your workout area is organized. This attractive workout mat fits the bill, with an extra-durable, nonskid bottom surface that protects your hardwood or tile floor from wear and tear while adding stability. Plus, with more than 6 feet of workout space, the mat gives you plenty of room to move. The mat--which measures 36 by 89.5 inches (W x L)--also lessens the impact of working out on hard surfaces.

Bodycraft Fitness K2 Home Gym Exercise Machine Style: No Leg Press Station (Standard) Review
Also, I put my entire gym together all by myself. My wife did help with discarding the mountain of boxes and plastic packaging that accumulated, but refused to assist with the actual assembly because of her unfounded notion that I'm too much of a perfectionist.
Anyway, solo assembly does allow one an intimate familiarity with the unit. Not only was every piece there that was supposed to be there, everything actually fit just like it should. During the whole assembly process (and close examination of each individual part), I could find NO instance where quality appeared to be compromised in any way.
I mean - the manufacturer warranties every single piece of the thing for as long as you live, so do the math. And buy it while you're young.
So of all the gym's Bodycraft makes, why did I choose the K2? In a word - SQUATS! Everything I've ever learned about fitness tells me that squats are the best single exercise you can do. And that's one exercise that's noticeably absent in most home gyms. Sure, you can do leg curls and extensions, and some even throw in a leg press. But nothing beats squats for total fitness - and this machine allows you to do them to total exhaustion, in total safety.
And when you throw in the upper, lower, and mid level cable pulleys - plus the movable arms (an idea borrowed from Bowflex's Revolution), I'd defy anyone to tell me an exercise you can't do on this gym.
Okay, now that I've got everything thinking I'm probably a Bodycraft stockholder or something, I'm going to try to pick this thing apart. So here's some bad stuff.
First of all, this thing is EXPENSIVE! I know that you get what you pay for, blah blah blah - but $3400 is still a lot of cash to lay out for exercise stuff. That's why you should buy it while you're young so the warranty will be longer, and you'll have more years over which to amortize the cost.
Also, it comes in about a gillion boxes - none of which are even remotely light weight or easy to handle. (There's a down side to buying quality stuff - It weighs more.) It could be argued that anyone capable of muscling all these boxes into the assembly area is already in great shape, and probably doesn't need the gym anyway.
And if you haven't achieved all your fitness goals getting all the parts in your basement, don't worry. By the time you get everything unpackaged and laid out in some sort of recognizable order, you will have.
But alas, the actual assembly process isn't all that bad. The instructions are very concise and easy to follow, and having virtually every piece machined to perfection certainly helps.
One word of caution though - leave all the nuts, bolts, washers, etc. that are in labeled bags IN THOSE BAGS! The instructions will reference those parts based on those labels. If you take them out, you'll have to measure each individual bolt to figure out whether or not it's the one you're looking for.
Oh... and don't forget to drink lots of fluids.
Once assembly is complete though, and you get a little feel for the K2, you'll realize that the lifetime warranty Bodycraft gives you probably isn't ever going to come into play. This is one well built gym!
On a somewhat funny side-note, I had ordered Bowflex's DVD a few weeks prior, and they called me about the time I'd finished putting the K2 together to see if I was ready to order a new Bowflex. After explaining that I'd bought a Bodycraft over the Bowflex - because I'd never seen a Bowflex in a commercial gym, etc., the lady thanked my politely and told me whenever I get ready to UPGRADE to a Bowflex, to give them a call.
Folks, trust me on this one - If you own this gym, the word "upgrade" isn't even applicable. And if you've endured the assembly process, you ain't gonna be changing nothing for quite awhile!
But after living with the K2 for about a month now, I have 3 gripes:
1. When you're trying to "guesstimate" the weight you're lifting on the bench press, I don't think they made allowances for the actual weight of the bar assembly you're lifting. For example, 100 lbs. of free weights is considerably lighter than 100 lbs. on the K2.
2. I love the isolation of doing "dumbbell presses" on the cable arms, and find the little balls on the ends of the cables that rest against the pulley don't float like they do on cheaper machines. These things seem to want to rake across my arms just north of the elbows causing annoying little bruises.
3. There's a little feeder pulley on the end of each movable arm that doesn't seem to be of the same quality of the other pulleys. Hence, when the cable contacts this pulley, it makes a slight noise it doesn't otherwise make. I know that no one other than someone like me would probably even notice this, but it bothers me since it seems to be about the only flaw on an otherwise really well thought out machine.
In summary, if you're looking for a commercial quality gym for the home, you've got about 10' X 12' of good solid floor space, and $3,400 to invest in your future health, I can't imagine investing it more wisely.
And if you happen to live in the Cincinnati, OH area, check out Exercise & Leisure Co. They're a great bunch of guys, match whatever price you'll find online, and they'll deliver it AND even put it together for you if you don't live too far away.
